Kim Burlison asked a question

In December of 2010 I was seen in the emergency room at Providence Milwaukie Hospital and diagnosed with bi lateral ovarian cysts. They were under 6cm so I was sent home to follow up with my PCP. On Jan 20th I once again went to the ED at Providence Milwaukie Hospital and at that time the cysts had grown to 9cm. I was admitted for an emergency bi lateral oopherectomy to be completed the next day by OBGYN, Nancy Lin a physician at Milwaukie Providence.

We were told the surgery would be performed via scope but once Dr. Lin opened me up she realized I was full on scar tissue and had to open my stomach up to reach all of my organs. Her job was to remove the ovaries and the cysts. After a few hours she had to call in a general surgeon as the had perforated my small and large bowel (I just found this out by reading the surgery reports). When the two of them were done with surgery Dr. Lin proceeded to tell my parents "Had I known what a mess she was I would have never agreed to do surgery on her." and when I saw her in the recovery room she said "You are going to have to be put on a pain management medicine such as methadone because I am not going to manage your pain." Those were the first words I heard out of her mouth.

The pathology report states they received a "smaller and a larger" Ovary but neither in total.

I was in the hospital for a few days and released but was readmitted about a week later with terrible pain in the upper part of my intestines and in the lower left quadrant. At this time I did not know she has perforated so many different areas. The doctors treated me for pain and kept me a few days and then I was released.

I continued to have pain similar to the ovarian pain in my right side and kept seeing my primary care doctor, Dr. Kara Kassay. In July 22, 2011 she sent me for a repeat ultrasound to determine where the pain was originating. The US showed that I still had my right ovary. It was never taken out. I was emotionally distraught. I had just missed 10 weeks of work for nothing. I didn't do what I was supposed to do.

Dr. Kassay sent me to Dr. Jana Raddoch an GYN ONC surgeon for a second opinion. In our meeting Dr. Raddoch stated that another surgery would be just as complicated as the first. It would require another open surgery and another 10-12 weeks of recovery time. She also stated that she had not heard great things about this Dr. Lin and in fact had had to go in and save her on a cancer patient that Dr. Lin got in over her head on. At that time I could not miss work and did not have the emotional energy to fight the battle again.

We moved to Colorado shortly after so I could pursue another career. the pain in my right ovary continue on a monthly basis until Feb and then became a constant pain. In Feb 2014 I went to the hospital for LEFT side pain. I had earlier been diagnosed with possible diverticulitis on that side so I assumed that it what it was but it got really bad so I went t the ED and found that it was a cyst on my LEFT ovary. So not only had she left the right one...she also left the left ovary!

I was in constant pain from February through July when I had to quit working and go on FMLA until I could have yet another surgery. My surgery was completed by Dr. Daniel Donoto on August 8, 2014. He said I was a mess. He could see where the previous doctor had tried to remove ovaries, tried to do a bowel resection and messed it up. During this surgery he was able to remove the ovaries and I did have to have a bowel resection. I was readmitted twice after the initial surgery for bowel obstructions with NG tubes both times.

I have not been able to go back to work due to the pain in my stomach. Is there anything we can do to the original doctor because she didn't do the job she said she did and she billed for a job she didn't do?
