Hello my name is John Hancock from the Appalachian Circuit of Dept of Community Supervision. I was terminated for failing to qualify with my Glock 23 . I was issued one of the new Glocks this year and have had trouble shooting it from the beginning . It wasn't until the 5th attempt that I noticed that the front sight was loose to the point that you could turn it side to side .The instructors were able to repair it on the range but had to readjust the front and rear sight to where they felt it was good, throwing off the dynamics . I failed with one of the worst scores I'v ever had . When I reported this to Chief Karl he sent in a request that I get 3 more attempts after some more training and this would have given me the chance to take the weapon to Glock and have it checked over . I have always scored well in qualifies over the past years and just did this spring with my Glock 27 backup scoring a 270 out of 300 ( 240 is passing )if I remember right . As I feel this weapon was not right from the beginning I do not feel my termination was just and that I am not unfit for duty because of equipment failure . I did file an appeal but the dept never replied to it until late Dec..When a person is hired they go through a week and a day of firearm training and I do not understand why the same amount of training is not applied when issued a new weapon .I do have copys of documents from Chief Karl and a copy of email stating dept was going to do away with my position through attrition. I feel that I am being discriminated against because I do not have a collage degree but was good enough to hire when they needed me ! This December would mark my 8th year with the state and I was planing on going for the full 20 years .Thank you for any help you can give . John Hancock 706-897-3225

I had my adverse action hearing and Mr Knatt told me he was going to recommend I be reinstated and given my attempts to qualify back . He also told me Joe Thompson gave him a written statement that Joe was present for repairs to my weapon . He was not . Present where Mr Ketterman and Mr West . Joe also said the sights would not have affected accuracy . Loose sights affect everything on the weapon . My POST certification is in suspension because the dept didnt apply my score to POST last spring when I shot my backup weapon.
My request for training was denied but the dept gave a whole class ( about 50 ) kids a extra weeks training and another attempt at shooting a qualifying score
