I am affiliated with Member Benefits from NYSUT. I purchased the legal Service Plan then and my NYUST member ID NO. is 8900003. Her is my situation. In 2009 my husband and I filed for bankruptcy. In March of this year it was discharged. My mortgage was not part of the bankruptcy and I continued as was the plan to pay my mortgage payments. I called them in each month. For the first four years they sent me statements. Then approximately 4 years into the bankruptcy they stopped sending me my statements. I called the lawyer and he told me this was common and just continue to send my monthly payments to which I did and the payments are $578.00 I would send them $600. Then in July I received a letter from them stating that payment due was $6000.00 and that my home was at risk. I called them once again and they stated that I needed to fax them a release of payment statement to which I did that very day. To date I have received nothing but a letter stating that they are working on it. I contacted bankruptcy lawyer in July as soon as this happened he has informed today that this is my problem and that he would not be handling this for as the bankruptcy is discharged and it is more or less not his problem anymore. I am at wits end as to what to do and where to turn. My question to you is this, what can I do? My original mortgage was with Beneficial and they then merged with HSBC and this happened just recently so I am figuring that this is how the descripency has occurred. However, I cannot get any answers from anyone other than this is what you owe they say. I have not recieved anything with when or how they came up with this figure, but I have contacted my bank about bringing up all my payments from 2009- to present and the cost is ridiculous that I have to pay for them to do this process for me. Especially when I know I do not owe them this amount of money. I just wanted to give you some of the background so that when I am contacted through the legal service Plan you are aware of the issue.
