I work at Pine Ridge IHS as a radiologist. I recently had an MI. I iniatially was seen in the Pine Ridge IHS ER and was sent to Rapid City Regional Hospital for treatment. While there I had a cardiac cath and stents placed in my proximal and distal LAD. I also had an angio-seal device placed to occlude the puncture site. After I got home I showed the puncture to one of my neighbors Dr Cosme who then called Dr Burgos (a surgeon) over to have a look. He said it looked infected and that I needed to see someone. I called my PCP who said come in. He did an in office I & D and took cultures. He gave me a shot of rocephin and put me on PO bactrim and keflex until the cultures came back. I was doing frequent dressing changes with betadine and peroxide flushing followed by topical antibiotic ointment. One of the people at work placed me as AWOL for not coming in with an infected wound. I can't paste a photo here. The stress from all of this caused the cardiac rehabilitation nurse to have to take me to the ER at Chadron hospital for treatment and change of medication to treat the lesion in my circumflex that the cardiologist was trying to treat medically. The day before this I worked from about 7-7:15 am until 7-7:3 pm with lunch at my desk trying to catch up with work. I am now unable to return to work until I see the cardiologist in Rapid City for follow up. I asked a friend of Jeff Gooch from the Gooch firm what I should do but a friend at work - one of Xray techs where I work as a radiologist Mickey Buckles said that I should contact you.
